Premium Receipt FAQ

What should a premium receipt include?

Who issued it (insurer, broker, or agent), the policyholder's name, the policy number, the period of cover, what the premium is for (motor comprehensive, fire, marine), the amount received - in figures and words - the payment date and method, and a receipt number. This tool prints all of it, including the policy number and cover period as dedicated lines.

Why does the period of cover matter on the receipt?

Because 'no premium, no cover' is the rule in most markets - Nigeria's insurance law says cover only exists once the premium is received. The receipt tying the payment to a stated cover period is the policyholder's evidence that they were on risk when a claim arises. Date it accurately.

Can I issue a receipt for an installment premium?

Yes - use the part-payment mode: it shows the amount received now and the balance outstanding. Note on the receipt what the installment covers, since partial premium in many markets means proportional or no cover until fully paid - your underwriter's terms decide.

Who issues the receipt - the insurer or the broker?

Whoever received the money issues a receipt for it. Brokers and agents receipt the client for premiums collected, then account to the insurer; the insurer receipts the broker. If you're an agent, put your own name and agency details in 'Issued by' and reference the insurer in the notes.

How is this different from a Growpins Ledger account?

This tool issues one receipt at a time. A free Growpins Ledger account stores every policyholder as a client, tracks premiums invoiced and received per client, and keeps the books - so renewals, balances, and commission reconciliation stop living in a notebook.

A book of clients, renewals, and balances?

Growpins Ledger keeps every policyholder as a client with their premiums invoiced, received, and outstanding - plus the bookkeeping your commission reconciliation needs. Built by the team behind Growpins, founded by Dokun Bamigboye. Free tier, no card required.
